Having owned the North Wales Scrambles guide written by Garry Smith for nearly 9 years, I think it is the best scrambling guidebook for North Wales. Describing 50 of the most classic scrambles up in Snowdonia National Park, and a few of Garry’s favourites. Ranging from grade 1 all the way up to 3+. Garry uses + & – for some of the route grades to show slight variances between them.
Each scramble has a detailed description of its approach, the route itself, and the descent. Down to the fine details. With each route comes an OS map, and a picture of the crag/mountain to make route finding and identification of the chosen scramble easier. But as you are in North Wales, the weather could be anything, so make sure to pack your map and compass (Silva Expedition compass review).
Each route description is accompanied by some awe-inspiring pictures to wet the appetite. The guide book is pocket-sized, and easy to use. An essential item to have on the hills when scrambling, especially if you are not familiar with the routes.
Whether you are a weathered scrambler or a beginner, this is my go-to guidebook for North Wales. Well written, a great level of detail, making route finding very easy. What more do you expect from the best scrambling guide for North Wales.
