What an excellent few days with Kevin, in the stunning Wye Valley. I started mountaineering just as we went into Lockdown and am now 35 days in, having climbed in Scotland, Wales, the Swiss Alps and Africa. I seek out professionally accredited guides/instructors, folks that will keep me safe but also push me, enabling maximum progress. Kevin is the latest of ten such individuals that I have had the pleasure to learn from. A current objective is to move up from ‘trad competent second’ level to one where I am leading. Although I had only the three days to spare, Kevin delivered excellent instruction and support, climbing in Symonds Yat, Wintour’s Leap and at Red Point climbing centre, Worcester. Kevin pays meticulous attention to detail, he took time to understand my general objectives and very quickly made an assessment of my ability. I left my ‘comfort zone’ almost immediately, small steps, all building confidence. Unique amongst the instructors that I have met so far, Kevin has a fascinating interest in climbing psychology (and has published a book on the subject). He explained how my own body was reacting as we climbed and offered very helpful tips, particularly around ‘negative self-talk’, ‘stress’ and ‘breathing’. Technically, there is also a lot to take in, moving into the ‘lead’ role but I now have the confidence to keep up that momentum. ‘Always a little further….’, many thanks Kevin.
Rod McLeodKevin’s attention to detail for climbing was superb. Taking two people with limited experience to achieve more challenging climbs than we thought possible. After a day of great climbing under his guidance, Kevin then set us up for a night of portaledging. Again Kevin was excellent, setting up the experience and taking his time to set us up on the ledge. Kevin then provided us with a fine dining experience before putting on a helicopter show from the coastguard (they were out searching for a lost person) and then providing a sunrise to take your breath away. From start to finish we cannot recommendKevin enough. Thank you for a great experience. Cheers

Had a great day out with Kev learning to fall on trad gear. Been back climbing for a few years now and well aware of the bad habits I have. Lockdown and lack of leading has lead to a bit of a crisis in confidence.
Needed a bit of input and got just that. Kev took us through where and how to use various types of nuts, cams and hexes to maximum safe effect. We talked kN and fall factors and then got on some classic climbs at Symond's Yat to place the gear and take the falls. Using a top rope while leading, put me under pressure to climb carefully and place gear which then had to work. And it did, every time. Thank you, Kev.
Hi Kevin- thanks so much for Saturday's climbing psychology workshop. Found it super useful ! The balance between being encouraging but not too pushy was perfect. Thanks.
Gemma NeathHave just done a trad falling workshop with Kev. Was very well run, personalised and professional. Kev packed a lot into the day, and imparted a huge amount of wisdom on good/bad gear placement, route strategy and more. He even managed to get us taking falls in gear and feeling confident and safe throughout! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to progress in climbing - already thinking about what course I can do next.
Tom HeathI did the Trad Climbing Falling Workshop with Kevin. It was a great course that fully met my expectations. After a quick refresher on the basics of placing gear the course progressively moved onto leading, initially with a back up top rope but then to pure leading. There was, as Kevin promised, plenty of falling on different types of gear which I found really helped to build my confidence. Kevin was supportive but also challenged me to push my limits which resulted in me leading a grade harder than I was 25 years ago. I would highly recommend the course.
Paul FeaseyKevin, good day yesterday, thank you. I've always been a bit uncomfortable about lead climbing so it's good to have put that gremlin to bed!

Thank you for the awesome experience. The boys absolutely loved it, and wanted to go climbing yesterday. I am thrilled. The boys and I had a wonderful few days. You took your time and were very patient with us and am very grateful for that, and the conversation.
I have no doubt I will be back. I want to go cliff camping, so that is a definite in May 2021!
Kevin was great. My brother and I have the climbing bug for sure. Will want to keep practicing for sure.
David CrewI climbed with Kevin this last winter season after a long break from Scottish Winter Climbing. He provided sound advice on gear and technique to polish up my winter skills again with ice tool and gear placements. There was also comfort from his skill level allowing me to push myself much more than I would have out with another novice.
DavidWe had a great experience sleeping on the side of a cliff as a thrill experience. Felt safer than we thought we would, thanks to Kevin. Would highly recommend, as a very unusual and fun thing to do for non climbers.
Peter and KatyBoth myself and my wife had a great time on a sport climbing course. Kevin offered excellent guidance, we will not hesitate to contact you again in the future for Trad climbing instruction and guidance.

I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you again and let you know how much your psychology course has improved my climbing. I've recommended quite a few people your way.
Not sure if you remember, but before the course I was stuck on 6b/6b+ routes. I red pointed my first 7a week before last, and I got myself up a 7b+ last week. I'm also practising regular fall drills and am now completely fine with going for moves I probably can't stick above clips.
On arrival, there was a welcoming, convivial atmosphere. Following introductions, and discussing some points raised in a previously completed questionnaire - Which in itself was very helpful to actually really *talk* about it (and get other attendees viewpoints). We covered the reactions and psychology of what happens in the situations.
We headed to the wall, and setup some ropes, and started the exercises. Starting off with small drops and gradually building up to bigger (and always controlled) drops. There was no pressure, Kevin let us go at our own pace, always encouraging, never forcing, and tweaking suggestions to suit each climber. He was very diligent in watching the group and pointing out some actions I didn't realise I was doing subconsciously. Toward the end of the session, we did some falling games, and had another useful Q&A session
In all, a great way to spend an afternoon, looking forward to putting it into practice, and making it part of the routine at my local walls. Highly recommended course to do at any point in your climbing career.
Great session at the Warehouse with Kevin. The psychology of falling!
Certainly helped to overcome some of the instinctive fears I have. Need to carry on with the practice and use it to get up some routes this summer.
Kev has really helped me start to overcome my fear of falling! Loved the workshop today and would completely recommend to all nervous climbers like me!!!!

Just got back from a week of winter skills and ice climbing with Kevin - awesome! Seriously good teacher and all around friendly guy who gave a really personalised experience. You can tell Kevin has a big passion for the outdoors and is great at what he does.
Thanks again and hopefully see you soon!
Had a week with Kevin in Scotland. The best week I've had in a very long time! A consummate professional and a seriously good teacher, not to mention an even better bloke. Always felt safe, had such a laugh and learnt so much during my time with Kevin. Thoroughly recommended. I will be returning to him again without a doubt.
Callum Naismith"The psychology of Climbing session was amazing. I went from crying on top rope at the beginning of the session to touching the next clip and falling off. Thank you Kevin!"
Laura Burnett"Kev taught us with patience, knowledge and humour which made the whole experience really enjoyable and fun. Despite the complexity of the techniques Kev demonstrated them in such a way that made them easier to understand and remember, as a result I am confident that I could recall them when needed. Excellent teacher and an extremely nice bloke."
Colin Baker"Did a days trad at the Avon gorge with Kev recently and left feeling confident in going out and doing it without an instructor. Great style of teaching that allows you to assess your own and others work before Kev tells you what he thinks. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn trad or brush up on technique, gear placement etc."
Ben Taylor"Had a really good trad climbing introduction day run by Kevin. He has a really good teaching style and after just one day i feel comfortable leading easy trad routes and setting up anchors. He made me feel comfortable and relaxed while still pushing me through my comfort zones. I would definitely recommend Kevin's courses for anyone looking to get into trad climbing or learning new skills."

“Wasn’t sure what to expect, as my boyfriend booked the experience for my birthday. As soon as we arrived, Kevin gave me the confidence, and reassured me. It was an unforgettable experience. And felt looked after throughout the two days. Thank you again Kevin.”
“Awesome experience, hanging out on a cliff tent above the sea in Pembroke. Definitely one memorable experience.”
Izzy & Tom“I really enjoyed my course with Kevin. He was very patient and worked with me to build my confidence in gear placement and leading. I would certainly recommend his courses. Thank you so much for 2 extremely informative, fun days. Kevin was very supportive, patient and knowledgeable. I feel much more confident with leading, gear placement and anchor building. I can't wait to get back out on the rock! ”
Freya Ceen“Kevin is a knowledgeable and patient coach who inspires confidence. He took an outdoor novice like me and explained challenging concepts and techniques clearly so that I knew when I had placed gear safely - no mean feat! We went to Symonds Yat, which is an exceptionally breathtaking place to learn trad skills. I enjoyed every minute and would heartily recommend Kevin as a coach.”
Jemma Forino“We had a great time, was scared at first, and wasn’t sure what to expect. Kevin was very reassuring and made the experience go flawlessly, and felt safe throughout the stay on the portaledge.”
