First of all the Mountain Equipment Lhotse jacket is a well-thought-out design with the benefit of Gore-Tex® Pro used throughout.  A 3 layer system providing the user with reliable protection from all weathers.  The shoulders, the elbows and most of the arms, areas which are more likely to wear, have been reinforced.  As a result, providing durability, and withstanding abrasion in rugged environments, an ideal jacket for climbing, mountaineering and ski-touring.

Gore-Tex® says “The fabric’s construction keeps your body dry by reducing the accumulation of sweat, so you remain cool during aerobic activities and warm during cool-down.”

A large chest pocket on the left of the jacket offers easy access to a map, compass, snacks or any items you need regularly.  As well as two pockets either side of the jacket, provide storage for gloves.

Furthermore, you feel its quality as soon as you pick it up.  The Mountain Equipment Lhotse jacket comprises of zips large enough to use with gloves, comfortably.  Meaning they do not get stuck halfway, having to undo it like the smaller water resistant equivalent, that most other manufacturers still use for the pockets.

  • Easy to use big zips
  • Reinforced in the right places
  • Two-way YKK Water Resistance zips under the arm for ventilation

CONS

  • Would like to see more colour choice

I am really struggling to come up with anything negative to say about this jacket.  I can’t fault it, not even the price.  As I think it is reasonably priced comparatively to other jackets on the market.

CONCLUSION

Having walked, climbed and dug snow holes with the Lhotse jacket, and been out in all weathers Scotland could throw at it, it has kept me dry.  Its durability combined with the easy to use design of its features, make it an excellent choice of jacket.  Mountain Equipment have set the bar high.  A durable, versatile, and well-designed jacket of high quality.
