TYPICAL COURSE LAYOUT

Each day of our introduction to rock climbing course we would introduce the topic of weather, and ability, and how this would affect venue selection.

DAY 1

You will learn everything you need to climb and belay safely. The main focus of the day would be safety, equipment selection, climbing movement, belaying, and looking at how to tie into the rope.

DAY 2

As well as looking at the previous day’s topics, we would look at route choice, climbing grades, ethics, rope management, and we may do some abseiling.

COURSE DETAILS

Our 2-day Introduction to Rock Climbing course is aimed at anybody new to climbing, either indoors or outdoors.  It is an opportunity to learn to climb real rock, in a structured and supportive environment.  Firstly, we cover the fundamentals for climbing outside.  Our introduction to rock climbing course is usually run in either the Wye Valley or the Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire), Avon Gorge (Bristol, Somerset), or the Peak District.  These areas are perfect for beginners wanting to test out their rock climbing skills.  And of course, have fun whilst doing it.

On the Introduction to Rock Climbing Course, we will cover the following areas:

  • Rock climbing movement
  • Equipment selection
  • Safety and protection
  • Rope management
  • Basic knots (i.e. tying rope into the harness)
  • Abseiling
  • Route choice
  • Climbing grades
  • Belaying and lowering
  • Ethics

Of course, our experienced instructors will choose the right location as a learning environment, with the right amount of challenge.

DURATION

The introduction to rock climbing course is 2 days long, and is run in the Wye Valley or Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire), Avon Gorge (Bristol, Somerset), or The Peak District. The client-to-instructor ratio does not exceed 6:1, to ensure that we can give you our fullest attention.

All of our courses are tailored to suit your availability and experience, taking into account any individual needs and fitness levels.

KIT

We will discuss any specific kit requirements with you when you make a booking.  We do have a selection of kit you can borrow.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

This course is suitable for complete beginners.  And anybody who has climbed indoors, and would like to test their rock climbing skills out on real rock. No previous climbing experience necessary. If in doubt about whether the course is suitable for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
